Amber Rose Adair stood at a crossroads. At 220 pounds and worn down by emotional and financial stress, she knew something had to change. Asking for help didn’t come easily, especially in a family where vulnerability was rarely voiced, but Amber felt a quiet urgency rise within her. If she didn’t do something now, the cycle would continue.
That’s when Amber’s mother recommended she reach out to Leon Hembry, founder of Total Effort Fitness. Amber wasn’t just looking for a workout plan. She needed direction, accountability, and someone who could meet her where she was. But more than that, she needed to believe again in herself, in her body, and in the future God was calling her into.
The decision wasn’t easy. Money was tight, and every expense had to be carefully weighed. Still, she felt the Holy Spirit speak clearly: “If you take this step, I will provide.” And He did. Down to the penny, Amber had just enough to begin.
From day one, Leon did more than train her. He created what she calls a grace space. There were days when depression kept her quiet, when grief or discouragement threatened to take over. In the past, those would have been reasons to quit. But Leon reminded her: progress, not perfection. Even on the hardest days, just showing up mattered.
“He told me not to let my emotions dictate my habits,” Amber reflects. “That if I just moved with the strength I had, that would be enough.”
That mindset shift changed everything. Amber started moving with intention, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She built discipline not by pushing through pain, but by honoring the process and choosing consistency. Over time, she lost 60 pounds. But what she gained reached far deeper.
Her relationships grew stronger. Her confidence returned. She began living with purpose and clarity. Fitness became more than a goal. It became a reflection of her faith in action.
“I know not everyone talks about God, but I can’t leave Him out of my story,” she says. “He was in every step. Every dollar that showed up. Every moment I thought I couldn’t keep going, He did.”
Amber carries with her the truth of 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Now, she stands not just stronger but freer. What began as a fitness journey became a testimony of healing, faith, and the quiet power of saying yes to growth.
For anyone searching for strength beyond the dumbbells, Total Effort Fitness is where that journey begins. Leon meets you exactly where you are and reminds you day by day, rep by rep, that you are far stronger than you ever knew.
